A recent post on a well-read local social media platform raised the spectre of not being able to get a consultation at their local surgery. This is a serious issue and with all NHS services under tremendous strain this isn't going to be resolved soon so it would be good to know what else you can do. It may definitely pay off to call 111 or contact the local pharmacy you’d usually use.
You’d be surprised how many unnecessary GP visits are made (see poster) while your local NHS pharmacy can usually help at no extra cost to you, will be cheaper for the NHS, just as effective, you’ll be seen quicker and will help free up GP waiting times.
The services pharmacies provide are quite wide-ranging, confidential, and in-depth with no appointments usually needed. You will be surprised. We can help with most things including emergency supplies of medicines but where we cannot help and where referrals to your GP (or any other service) are necessary, we tend to make them for you via the NHS network so you get to be seen quicker.
For more information, visit your pharmacy website or the NHS website.
